In 2020, I made my first hoop earring. I've always loved hoop earrings in particular but desired to see a more expressive look on me.
My creativity was jarred by the lack of options I saw in stores. I spent countless hours fascinated by different yarns and fabrics, wrapping them around the hoop, but that wasn't enough. So, I added beads and charms, which gave cultural representation at times and a tasteful look at others.
I remember being asked, "What will you call your earrings?" It was a no-brainer for me. If you know me, you'd know that I love basketball and hoop earrings. Merging two completely different interests of mine would visually represent Hoops by Mo in a full circle.
As I evolved in my creativity, I began to realize a game was playing in my mind. I had taken my position, and now I could finally see from a full-court advantage. It was time for me to get down the court—I was finally figuring out how to play the game that I love.
I saw that earrings could highlight self-image and bring ladies from different backgrounds together in representation. The youth and young males were getting involved to support and advertise my visions. This was a move of inclusion and a push in movement—to dream out loud.
Hoops by Mo Undefined is that place.
